How to Set Goals and Achieve Them

How to set goals and achieve them

If you don’t set goals, you won’t know where to go! Here, I go into detail about one of the goals I set and how I achieved it. I hope you can take this example and apply it to your goals for the new year.

Set One End Goal

When I started my Instagram account @weddingflourish at the very end of October 2021, I wanted it to reach wedding floral designers like yourself. I set a goal for this account, I wanted 300 followers by the end of the year. So that meant 300 followers in 2 months, that was my end goal. I took this goal and I broke it down into smaller milestones so I knew what I needed to do to reach my ultimate goal.

Break Down End Goal Into Smaller Goals

If I wanted 300 followers in 2 months, this is what it is broken down into smaller goals:

  • 150 followers a month or
  • 75 every 2 weeks
  • Around 37 followers a week

Make a Plan

Having smaller goals and milestones, I then planned out what I needed to do to achieve those goals every week, every 2 weeks, and every month. Here was my plan:

  • Post 1 reel a day, 7 days a week
  • Post 1 post every day, 5 days a week
  • All valuable content and no nonsense
  • Batch and schedule 2 or 4 weeks of content at a time so I’m not rushing at the last minute wondering what to post
  • I also had a team member engage on my IG account during the day

Audit Progress & Hitting Milestones

Because I had a goal, some milestones, and a plan, I knew exactly what I needed to do. If at the end of every week, I didn’t gain 37 followers, I would put in the extra time myself engaging on my IG on top of the time my team member was doing during the day. If somedays I see that it was slow, I would also put in time in the evening during my downtime. So instead of scrolling endlessly on IG, I had a goal and a plan.

On the evening of Dec 30, I was 15 followers away from 300. So I knew I had to put in extra time to reach more accounts to get 15 followers in one day. My very last stretch on Dec 31 to reach my goal!

So what if I didn’t have a goal for Instagram? I wouldn’t know what to do to move the needle in my business. I wouldn’t have put in that extra time on the last day of the year. At the end, I reached 299 followers, just one short of 300! Not bad, huh?

After Reaching Goal, Set a New Goal

Now that I’ve reached this goal at the end of the year, I’m going to focus on something else. Instead of focusing on follower gain, I want to spend more time on creating digital products and mini-courses for these 300 followers (and counting!). This means I will spend less time creating content on IG and less time engaging (my team member will still be doing that). I will cut my posting down to only once a day for 6 days, instead of twice a day for 5 to 7 days a week.

I took 5 minutes and created this posting plan. You can see that again, I have a plan and not just randomly posting when I want and what I want. Feel free to steal this plan for your own business and make it work for yourself.

See how specific goals determine your plans and actions? Pretty cool, huh? This is coming from a girl who hated and never believed in new years resolutions. I didn’t see the point of setting goals. But hey, now I’m doing it!

It Works the Same with Any Other Goals

This was an example of how to set a goal and achieve it for Instagram. You should set lots of goals, one or more for each and every aspect of your wedding floral business. Whatever you want to achieve by December 31, 2022, set your goals, write them down! Then break them down into smaller goals, every quarter, month, week, etc. See how you can create a roadmap for your business in 2022? This way, you know exactly what to do to move the needle in your business!
